A statue honoring Lemmy Kilmister, the iconic frontman of Motorhead, will be unveiled in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, marking ten years since his death and fifty since the band's founding. Sculptor Andy Edwards, also from Stoke-on-Trent, created the statue with support from Motorhead's management and local fans. Phil Campbell, the band's longest-serving guitarist, will place Lemmy's ashes in the statue's plinth during a motorcade celebration. Edwards crafted the statue, depicting Lemmy with his Rickenbacker bass, while listening to Motorhead to capture the essence of his music.
Itâll be solemn in a way, with enshrining his ashes, but also a celebration of the music and the fantastic character he was.
The statue has been a long time coming... They stepped in and said theyâd support us. They gave us credibility.
I spent six weeks creating the likeness of Lemmy from Staffordshire clay listening to Motorhead while he worked.
Itâs a good chord shape as it involves all his fingers, because he played the bass like a six string.
