"Everything was sort of a natural response to how good the tour was going, and all the people we had met up to that point. I wanted to capture and directly address the situation we were in - meeting people for the first time who give a shit about their community and the music around them."
"A central idea was: What does it mean to be alone? Is it a strength? Do you feel a part of something? A community? Lyrically, the new album delves into the social politics of hardcore and its lineage, and what it means to come of age in the social media era."
Hammok, an Oslo-based trio comprising Tobias Osland, Ferdinand Aasheim, and Ole Benjamin Thomassen, has signed to Sargent House and announced their sophomore album 'When Does This Place Become Our Scene,' arriving June 5. The lead single 'The Scene' features a music video directed by Christoffer Bya showing the band outdoors on plexiglass. The song emerged during tour as the band reflected on community connection and meeting passionate music fans. Produced entirely by Osland, the album examines hardcore's social politics, coming of age in the social media era, and explores themes of solitude and belonging. The band blends punk, noise rock, and post-hardcore, following their 2022 EP debut and 2024 album 'Look How Long Lasting Everything Is Moving Forward for Once.'
