A viral video showed the UK Eurovision act Look Mum No Computer, real name Sam Battle, sitting alone in the arena after a performance. The clip spread widely after the UK act finished last with one point and Bulgaria won for the first time after a three-year absence. Viewers criticized the BBC for abandoning him as scores came in, while a Denmark team member invited him to sit with them. The poster clarified the footage came from the jury show rehearsal, not the live finals. BBC communications head Chris McCluskey said the moment occurred after a flag parade in a non-TX jury final with no scores, and later activity was a tech run. During the live final, Battle was seen with the rest of the UK team.
"Shameful that our act at Eurovision was abandoned by the BBC and his team as the scores came in! And how lovely of the Denmark team to invite him to sit with them, so he wasn't alone. "Well done BBC, you chose him and then you abandoned him. Vile.""
"Some facts on this may be useful - this was a rehearsal, following the flag parade, with no scores given at this point - and the ones that did happen later that evening were merely a tech run for the real thing. But why let the truth get in the way of a good story."
"It was following a flag parade in non-TX jury final. He was led to green room area by production but there were no on camera rehearsal responsibilities for the UK team at this time. It was merely an off camera logistical matter following flag parade. Nothing more."
"During Saturday night's live final, Look Mum No Computer was not left alone, and was seen surrounded by the rest of the UK team."
