Cynthia Erivo receives MBE for contributions to music and drama
Cynthia Erivo was awarded an MBE on 19 May in recognition of contributions to music and drama. She received the honour from Prince William during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle and described it as an unexpected recognition. She said she hopes the award shows her deep care for her work and that she will continue to do so to the best of her abilities. Erivo was also named in King Charles’ 2026 New Year Honours List alongside Idris Elba and Ellie Goulding. She gained early prominence on Broadway in The Color Purple in 2015, later becoming an international star through Harriet and her portrayal of Elphaba in the Wicked films. She returned to the stage in Dracula and is set to star in Children of Blood and Bone, premiering in 2027.
