An annual Blue Grass Festival returns next weekend with premier blue grass and country bands. The festival launches in Toomey’s Bar on Friday 29 May, then continues on Saturday at Donard Hall with The Clem O’Brien Band, Whistle, The Watery Hill Boys, The Bluestack Mountain Boys, and guests. The event is non-profit and welcomes local sponsorship, with some tickets still available locally. The I.C.A. guild meeting included a talk by Paul Byrne on recognizing heart attack versus stroke and initial steps while waiting for an ambulance, using a dummy and defibrillator. Emergency kits are located outside shops in Donard and Castleruddery. In Dunlavin, a Mass Rock Mass is scheduled for 31 May, and an arts festival concert on 20 June features Niamh Murray, Ronan Murray, the Gormanstown Choir, and the Dara Quartet. A Culture Bus trip to Leinster House is planned for 9 July with limited numbers.
"Following the hugely successful event last year, our annual Blue Grass Festival returns next weekend, featuring some of Ireland's premier blue grass and country bands. The festival will be launched in Toomey's Bar on Friday night 29th May, with Mark Flynn (formerly of the Blood Red Mountain Band), Saturday at Donard Hall featuring The Clem O'Brien Band, Whistle, The Watery Hill Boys, The Bluestack Mountain Boys and guests."
"At the monthly guild meeting last week, the only First Responder left in the Donard/Glen area, Paul Byrne gave a wonderful very helpful talk. He explained how to recognise the difference betweem a heart attack and stroke and how to start dealing with each one while waiting for the ambulance. He brought along a dummy and defibrillator so that members could become familiar with using them."
"There is an emergency kit outside the shops in Donard and Castleruddery. The guild really appreciated Paul giving up his time to bring this vital service to our attention."
"As part of this year's Arts festival a concert will take place on Saturday June 20th in St Nicholas Church. The concert Midsummer Magical Melodies will feature Soprano Niamh Murray accompanied by her brother Ronan, The Gormanstown Choir and the Dara Quartet. Tickets at €25 will be on sale shortly from Eventbrite and from 087 9693960."
