Covent Garden will host a week-long public celebration of ballet as part of The Royal Ballet School’s centenary. From 22nd to 27th June, the Piazza will become an open-air dance venue with free screenings, live performances, public workshops, and film events. Full-length student classes will be screened for the first time on Covent Garden’s big screen, alongside performance footage and choreography showcases. Visitors can join interactive dance activities and outdoor film screenings featuring Billy Elliot, Center Stage, An American in Paris, Save the Last Dance, Step Up, and Ballerina. A new public artwork, “Strength and Grace Butterfly,” made from used pointe shoes, will be unveiled. Later in the summer, a ballet-inspired aerial installation will be suspended inside the Market Building, and themed food and drink pop-ups will run from 20th to 28th June.
