June brings multiple London food openings. Ella Williams takes a first head chef role at No. Forty Nine in St John’s Wood, offering all-day bakery and bistro dining with Mediterranean-meets-New-York dishes such as cornbread madeleines, tagliolini with prawns, and crab choux buns, plus a mini pizza menu and a Baby Guinness sundae. Counter 71 closes and becomes Appalachia, with a revamped space, new menu, new decor, and head chef Alistair Borer, featuring American South soul food like smoked eel, jalapeño deviled eggs, oysters with tomatillo and scotch bonnet, BBQ whole quail with blue cheese slaw, and grilled poussin. Additional openings include a lavish Soho ice cream parlour, a Stoke Newington boozer with a massive beer garden, and a Deptford branch of Toad Bakery.
"We recently named Ella Williams as one of the best young chefs in London and she's now bagged her first ever head chef role. Coming from the kitchen of Peckham's hip, she's crossed the river to St John's Wood, where she'll be leading the team at the newest restaurant from the same group as the excellent. We're also deeply interested in the Baby Guinness sundae."

The space has been given a proper revamp; new name, new menu, new decor and a new head chef in Alistair Borer, formerly of Smoking Goat. The vibe now is the American South, with fiery soul food such as smoked eel and jalapeño deviled eggs, oysters with tomatillo and scotch bonnet, BBQ whole quail with blue cheese slaw, grilled poussin with..."
"It's hot, it's sticky and we're not going to complain about it, because London in the sunshine is the greatest city in the entire world. Happily, there are some extremely fitting openings set for June, including a lavish ice cream parlour in Soho and a boozer with a massive beer garden in Stoke Newington. And in what will come as very good news to people in south London who like baked things, there's a brand new branch of Camberwell's legendary Toad Bakery set for Deptford."
