Queer Bookshop The Common Press Has Opened a Second Site
The Common Press opened a queer intersectional bookshop in Shoreditch in 2021 as part of the Glass House creative hub, which also included Common Counter bar and cafe. The Brick Lane bookshop remains open, but the bar closed in 2023. The team sought a way to bring the bar back and opened a second branch in Dalston. The new location is Black queer and trans run and champions LGBTQIA+, Black, POC, and non-binary voices, along with small publishers. The Dalston site includes a cafe and bar and an events programme ranging from Pride-themed activities to celebrations of new anthology Queerphoria, creating a community hub.
"Queer intersectional bookshop The Common Press (which is one of our Heroes) opened in Shoreditch back in 2021 as part of the Glass House creative hub, which also included bar and cafe Common Counter. Though the Brick Lane bookshop is still going strong, the bar wasn't so lucky, closing in 2023. Since then, The Common Press team has been looking for a way to bring the bar back, and they've found it over in Dalston as a second branch of The Common Press has just opened in the neighbourhood."
"Like the original (which is open as usual), the new location is Black queer and trans run, and champions LGBTQIA+, Black, POC and non-binary voices and small publishers. The Dalston site also boasts a cafe and bar, and there's an events programme that includes everything from a Moomin takeover for Pride to a celebration of new anthology Queerphoria, so it's going to be a proper community hub."
"With romance reads booming in the capital too, there's never been a better time for a new bookshop to come along. Address | 97 Stoke Newington Road, London, N16 8BX For more information | @thecommonpress"
