Police in South London apprehended 73-year-old David Cheneler, a registered sex offender, who was found with a six-year-old girl after facial recognition technology alerted authorities. Cheneler had been befriending the child’s mother and had previously been seen picking her up from school. He breached a court order prohibiting him from being alone with children, a precaution established due to his extensive history of sexual offenses. During detention, Cheneler confessed to being with the girl, but claimed it was a misunderstanding. He was subsequently sentenced to two years in prison for these violations.
