Man arrested after woman 'slammed' to ground
Briefly

Ayla Mellek was assaulted while walking along the Mile End canal path in east London, where a man forcefully knocked her down. Following the attack on May 4, she shared her experience on TikTok, prompting a flood of similar stories from women. A 38-year-old man from Whitechapel has been arrested for assault. Mellek expressed her fears about these incidents escalating and criticized the ongoing threat to women's safety, emphasizing that it shouldn't take severe incidents for action to be taken by authorities.
Ms Mellek stated: 'Please. If you're in London, you need to be so careful.' She expressed concern over the frequency of such violence against women.
Ms Mellek reflected on other women's experiences: 'There was this one woman and she said she was pregnant and some guy just slammed her into the ground.'
She added: 'Why should women like myself and others around London have to wait for an incident to become so severe?'. Her worries reflect a broader issue regarding women's safety.
Ms Mellek described her own incident, saying it happened 'so quickly' that the man could not have 'accidentally slammed someone to the ground.'
