Transport officials are being asked to address a concerning situation at a railway bridge near New Southgate Station, which is causing health issues for residents. A mysterious orange substance has been leaking from the bridge, while the presence of pigeon droppings has exacerbated the problem, particularly when mixed with rainwater. Local councillor Alessandra Rossetti has expressed frustration over the neglect by various organizations responsible for the bridge and surrounding area. She emphasizes the need for cooperation among stakeholders to rectify these issues and improve conditions for the local community.
Cllr Rossetti stated, "It is shocking to me that years of neglect and a failure to take responsibility by multiple organizations have transformed a simple case of disrepair into a health hazard for residents."
Residents described the mix of substances during wet weather as absolutely disgusting, particularly concerned about the health implications for those living nearby.
The Liberal Democrat councillor emphasized, "Now is the time to take action, and stakeholders must collaborate to address the issues, from stopping the leaks to proper maintenance of the footpath."
