Mobile phone coverage for passengers using King's Cross station has enhanced significantly due to the installation of bespoke equipment in the Gasworks and Copenhagen tunnels. The unique infrastructure required for mobile signal transmission was developed collaboratively by Network Rail, LNER, and mobile networks. This upgrade is network-neutral, meaning it can support any mobile provider that chooses to participate. O2 was the first to activate the service, with Three soon to follow. The initiative aims to enhance the overall travel experience by ensuring connectivity throughout the journey.
This project has been a fantastic example of the rail industry and mobile operators coming together to develop and deliver a bespoke solution which improves overall customer experience.
The infrastructure is network-neutral, supporting any network that signs up to use it. O2 was the first network to go live, and Three will switch on in the next few weeks.
