Cork is warming up for summer, with winter coats and hot water bottles being replaced by shorts, t-shirts, and cool refreshments. Forecasts point to highs around 27 degrees, even if conditions may not last through the bank holiday. On Saturday, May 30, the Analog Devices Cork City Marathon runs from morning into early afternoon under largely overcast skies. The event is organized by a dedicated team and has been revived by Cork City Council since 2027, with this year’s medals featuring a tribute to Ellen Cassidy. Also on May 30, Ocean to City - An Rás Mór marks a major Cork Harbour Festival event, drawing over 500 participants for a multi-craft rowing and paddling challenge from Crosshaven to Lapp’s Quay.
"Set to be played out under (largely) overcast skies, it's perfect running weather for the Analog Devices Cork City Marathon, which takes place on Saturday, starting in the morning and carrying through the early afternoon. Organised by a small but passionate team, the marathon has been a huge success since first being revived by Cork City Council in 2027. This year will be a particularly poignant event, with the winners' medals featuring a tribute to 24-year-old Ellen Cassidy, who sadly passed away after becoming ill while competing in last year's event."
"Marking one of the major events of the Cork Harbour Festival, which runs until June 10, the Ocean to City - An Rás Mór, is Ireland's largest multi-craft rowing and paddling race, attracting over 500 participants from Ireland, the UK, Germany, the USA, the Netherlands and beyond, taking on the challenge of rowing the world's second-largest natural harbour. Starting in Crosshaven at 11.30am, the the spectacular fleet of over 200 boats, including currachs, gigs, Chinese dragon boats, kayaks and even stand-up paddle boards, will head past Cobh, Monkstown and Passage West, before coming past Blackrock and finishing in Lapp's Quay."
