Is there going to be a heatwave this Bank Holiday weekend?
"BBC Weather has said that parts of the UK could experience a heatwave ahead of the long weekend, with temperatures set to climb as high as 28C by Saturday. This weekend is the Spring Bank Holiday in Wales and England, falling on Monday 25 May. While Wednesday temperatures are forecast to reach up to 21°C, on Thursday and Friday they could climb to 28°C in the south-eastern areas of England, marking the warmest weather of 2026 so far."
"Outside of the south-east, many cities could see warmer temperatures, reaching 20-26°C over the Bank Holiday. But be warned, Scotland, Wales, and the western parts of England could experience showers on Saturday, while this could be the case for southern England on Sunday. "The weather later this week will feel like a marked contrast from recent days, with warm, fine and settled weather for many," said Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Tony Wisson."
""While the warmth will persist through the Bank Holiday weekend, conditions will turn more unsettled later Friday and into Saturday, with a mix of cloud, showers and longer spells of rain." He went on to say there is "a chance of thundery rain in places". But temperatures should still remain warm or very warm throughout the weekend."
"Warm weather also has a larger impact on whether people decide to take last-minute trips within the UK. "Tourism supports 2.4 million jobs across every region and nation of the UK, and a sunny Bank Holiday makes a real difference to the businesses that depend on visitor spend," Eddy Leviten, the Executive Director of Tourism Alliance said."
Temperatures across the UK have fluctuated with hail, sleet, and heavy rain, leaving hopes for summer sun uncertain. BBC Weather forecasts a warm, fine, and settled period later in the week, with temperatures rising to around 28C by Saturday in south-eastern England, the warmest weather of 2026 so far. On Wednesday, temperatures may reach about 21C, while other areas outside the south-east could see 20–26C over the Bank Holiday. Scotland, Wales, and western England may have showers on Saturday, with southern England possibly seeing showers on Sunday. The Met Office warns conditions may become more unsettled later Friday into Saturday, with cloud, showers, longer spells of rain, and a chance of thundery rain. Warmer, drier weather could boost domestic tourism and related jobs.
