Havering among London boroughs 'benefitting the most' from Ulez expansion
Briefly

Havering Council initially opposed the expansion of London's low emission zone (Ulez) to outer boroughs, yet a new report from City Hall reveals a notable 15% reduction in Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions for that area in 2023. Other boroughs, such as Bromley and Sutton, also reported similar declines. Since the Ulez's initial launch in 2019, Havering has seen a 36% decrease in NOx emissions. The study indicates compliance among vehicles in outer London has risen substantially, contributing to an overall 14% drop in NOx emissions across the region, highlighting the effectiveness of the policy despite initial resistance.
"The decision to expand the Ulez was not something I took lightly, but this report shows that the policy has significantly reduced NOx and PM2.5 emissions in outer London."
