Vigilante black belt takes down 'sex attacker' in London street weeks after tackling Tube pickpocket suspect
"I understand there is a high crime rate at the moment and things are out of control. We have to take action on our own. I decided to help strangers when I see really bad crimes happening around me."
"I decided to restrain him safely so he doesn't get hurt. If you want to restrain someone in a safe way, Jiu-Jitsu is the best way. It just gives you an incredible amount of power so you can control situations in a fight. Learning martial arts is the best way to stay safe."
Ivan Skoko, 29, a Croatian jiu-jitsu black belt and Fight City Gym instructor, restrained an alleged sex attacker on a London street after hearing screams while walking home from training in Moorgate. Two other men had engaged the accused and the attacker began throwing punches; Skoko used jiu-jitsu techniques to control the suspect safely and held him for 25 minutes until a community support officer and police arrived. Police seized two phones and a hammer and bailed the suspect pending further investigation. Skoko previously intervened against a suspected pickpocket on the Tube and tried to stop a phone thief on an e-bike.
