"Brompton Cemetery was designed to resemble a large open-air cathedral with a central nave running from Old Brompton Road towards a central colonnade and chapel."
"The colonnade looks impressive from above, but it also sits above a long row of catacombs intended to house the dead waiting for their resurrection."
"Unfortunately for the cemetery owners, the catacombs were not a success, and only about 500 of the many thousands of places in them were sold."
"Tickets cost £6.13 per person and can be purchased from here."
Brompton Cemetery, part of the Magnificent Seven Victorian cemeteries, features catacombs designed for the deceased. Despite their intended purpose, only about 500 of the catacomb spaces were sold. Guided tours of the catacombs are now offered several times a year, expanding beyond the previous annual open day. The next tour is scheduled for Saturday, 30th May 2026, with tickets priced at £6.13. The cemetery is conveniently located next to West Brompton station, accessible via various rail services.
