This historic east London picture house is reopening - and it could have a surprising new operator
"'With the recent news that the building's redevelopment is on track for autumn 2027, our inbox has been overflowing with residents asking if we'll be involved,' says the Castle in a statement."
"'Our vision is to bring the same community spirit, curated film programme, and welcoming bar space that we pride ourselves on in Hackney,' says The Castle of its plans for the venue."
"'The selection process is ongoing, and whilst we are incredibly hopeful we know these things take time.'"
Castle Cinema is seeking to operate a new two-screen cinema in Highams Park's The Regal development. The project includes a cinema, café, and apartments, with a planned opening in autumn 2027. Castle Cinema aims to replicate its community-focused atmosphere and curated film selection from its Hackney location. The original Regal Cinema operated from 1935 to 1963 before becoming various entertainment venues. The selection process for the new venue is ongoing, and Castle Cinema is optimistic about its involvement in the community.
