Bedfords Park spans 215 acres between Collier Row and Harold Hill, with a history starting in the 1400s. Named after a landowner from 1362, it was part of the Gidea Hall estate until 1659 when it became separate. John Heaton acquired the estate in 1771, making it his residence and elevating its landscape. After his death in 1818, the property passed to his grandson, who continued improvements until it was auctioned in 1853. Romford Urban District Council purchased it in 1933, opened it to the public in 1934, and previously used the mansion as a military base during WWII.
Bedfords Park, a 215-acre green space, has a rich historical significance dating back to the 1400s, originally part of the Gidea Hall estate owned by various wealthy families.
In 1771, John Heaton transformed the estate into his main residence, enhancing its landscape and structure, including planting trees and converting the house into a two-storey mansion.
