The airports where your luggage is most likely to go missing revealed
Briefly

AirAdvisor conducted a study evaluating 53 airports worldwide to identify those where luggage is most prone to going missing. Factors such as annual passenger numbers, walking distance from gate to baggage claim, Google searches for lost luggage, and Yelp reviews were considered. Notably, Frankfurt, Istanbul, and Dubai International Airports emerged as the top three locations where baggage could be lost, primarily due to high passenger traffic and longer distances to reclaim areas. While many have good ratings, their baggage handling systems appear less reliable.
Frankfurt am Main International Airport sees 61.6 million passengers annually with 3,170 Google searches for lost luggage, making it the fifth most likely airport for bags to be lost.
Istanbul Airport ranks fourth in luggage loss likelihood with 79.9 million annual passengers. It has 3,340 lost luggage searches and an average walking distance of 24 minutes.
Dubai International Airport, the busiest according to the survey, handles over 92,000 passengers yearly and has significant lost luggage searches, making it one to avoid.
AirAdvisor’s study reveals that busy airports have a higher chance for baggage loss due to the sheer volume and length of time passengers spend retrieving their luggage.
