TfL releases early cost estimates for Step-Free access at five tube stations
"TfL typically looks at four core issues: Strategic importance Distance to nearest step-free station Local employment, population Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) / Interchange opportunities Transport interchange and frequency nearby Scheme Design / Deliverability Deliverable within the (previous) five-year plan Quality of step-free access that can be delivered Construction and engineering ability to build the upgrade Planning consent, listed status"
"Following a Freedom of Information request, TfL has released the current estimates of the costs of adding step-free access to several Northern line stations along the southern end of the service. As these are only preliminary estimates, the range of costs is quite broad. Colliers Wood - £41.7 to £111.3 million Tooting Broadway - £53 to £141 million Kennington - £40.4 to £107.8 million South Wimbledon - £44.5 to £118.6 million Stockwell - £94.8 to £253 million"
Transport for London (TfL) released preliminary cost estimates for adding step-free access to five Northern line stations on the southern branch. TfL evaluates proposals using four core issues: strategic importance, scheme design and deliverability, cost, and measured benefits. A shortlist of stations underwent feasibility studies in 2023 and 2024. The estimates, released following a Freedom of Information request, show wide cost ranges for Colliers Wood (£41.7–111.3m), Tooting Broadway (£53–141m), Kennington (£40.4–107.8m), South Wimbledon (£44.5–118.6m) and Stockwell (£94.8–253m). The ranges reflect early-stage uncertainty and varying engineering and deliverability factors.
