TfL is advancing 4G and 5G coverage on the London Underground, significantly improving connectivity. Recently, the Northern, Victoria, and Piccadilly lines received further upgrades, especially impacting regions in south London. The Northern line has expanded service with data coverage between Balham and South Wimbledon, along with stations at Kennington, Oval, and Tooting Broadway. Coverage extends along Bank branch and from South Wimbledon to Stockwell, with additional service expected between Kennington and Morden. Victoria line tunnels between Vauxhall and Pimlico also now have high-speed internet, providing enhanced access for commuters.
London is making internet and signal blackouts on the tube a thing of the past. Over the past couple of years TfL has gradually been rolling out 4G and 5G coverage on the London Underground, with key lines now boasting sections with high-speed internet coverage.
TfL announced that more of the tube now has 4G and 5G, focusing mostly on south London. On the Northern line, the tunnels between Balham and South Wimbledon now have data coverage.
The roll-out for the Northern line includes the Bank branch and service from South Wimbledon to Stockwell. By the end of summer, tunnels between Kennington and Morden will also be connected.
Deputy Mayor for Transport Seb Dance remarked that the introduction of 4G and 5G along further stretches of the Northern, Piccadilly, and Victoria lines means more Londoners can stay connected.
