Near East London's Custom House station is a woodland created in the 1980s on the site of the former Ashburton School, which operated from 1893 until 1984. The school was adjacent to Ceylon Mills industrial factory and featured a large playground. When the school closed, the edges planted with London Plane trees inspired the transformation into woodland. The area now consists of various trees like Poplars and Silver Birch, making it a wildlife-friendly space with tarmacked paths used by visitors, offering a rare green space in this part of London.
