London rings in New Year with spectacular fireworks display
"London ushered in 2026 with a spectacular fireworks and strobe-light display that celebrated togetherness. As Big Ben struck midnight, crowds counted down in unison before erupting into cheers to welcome the New Year. The London Eye took centre stage in the incredible display, organised by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, with towering fireworks and dramatic strobe effects. More than 12,000 fireworks and over 400 lights were used, making it the largest annual firework display in Europe."
"I'm delighted that we have once again shown why London's New Year's Eve celebrations are the greatest in the world. The eyes of the globe were looking on as we lit up our famous skyline with our best-ever display of fireworks and lighting, all to an incredible soundtrack. From celebrating our wonderful year of women's sport and Europe beating the USA in the Ryder Cup,"
"No matter what, London will always shine bright as a city of hope and a place for everyone."
London ushered in 2026 with a fireworks and strobe-light display centred on the London Eye that celebrated togetherness. Big Ben struck midnight as crowds counted down in unison and cheered to welcome the New Year. Organisers used more than 12,000 fireworks and over 400 lights, making the event the largest annual firework display in Europe. The soundtrack featured artists including Fatboy Slim, Heather Small, RAYE, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, Whitney Houston, Coldplay, and Chappell Roan. The show paid tribute to 2025 moments from an 18C tropical summer to sporting triumphs, including England's women's Rugby World Cup win and the Lionesses' Euros victory. A segment titled "Here's what England means to me" used flags to form a Union Jack and included appearances by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo tied to Wicked urging audiences to come together For Good. The display closed with a message that London will always shine as a city of hope and a place for everyone. Chilly conditions are expected to disrupt transport as revellers head home.
