A new proposal aims to establish a micro-museum in a disused toilet in the City of London to commemorate the Great Fire of 1666. The location is adjacent to the Monument, which honors the event, yet lacks adequate space for detailed informational display. The Eastern City BID is advocating for the plan, aiming to create an accessible cultural space featuring interpretive material related to the fire and the Monument's significance. Designs are still tentative, pending planning permission for the space's transformation.
The proposal will transform the existing space into a micro museum for the Monument to the Great Fire of London. It offers a great opportunity to provide a publicly accessible cultural space with unique historic interpretation of the Monument and its many layered stories.
At the moment, there isn't enough space around the Monument to display detailed information about the fire, so the idea is that the new museum will supplement that.
