It's official: London is one of the world's top five most expensive cities
Briefly

In 2025, London has been identified as the fourth most expensive city in the world according to Henley & Partners' annual wealth report, following Monaco, New York, and Hong Kong. The ranking is based on housing costs, particularly the price per square meter of luxury flats, which average around $24,000. Despite these exorbitant costs, many Londoners struggle with affordability, as evidenced by a Time Out survey revealing only 16% find nights out affordable. However, there are budget-friendly options available for enjoyment in the city.
In a recent Time Out survey only 16 percent of Londoners said that a night out here is affordable and just 35 percent agreed that restaurant prices are reasonable.
Each city was ranked according to the average square metre price of a 'prime' 100- to 200-square-metre apartment. Here in London, luxury flats that size go for an average of $24,000 (just over £18,000) per square metre.
London is among the world's most expensive cities, ranked fourth for 2025, behind Monaco, New York, and Hong Kong in overall price index.
It’s not all so bad. There are plenty of ways that you can make the most of London on a budget.
