245 firefighters called to THREE grass fires in THREE hours in east London

A series of three significant grass fires broke out in Dagenham, Hornchurch, and Walthamstow on July 14, 2025, destroying 19 hectares of grassland. 125 firefighters tackled the initial fire in Dagenham, prompting evacuations of nearby homes as flames threatened properties. Following this, a second fire started in Hornchurch and then a third in Walthamstow, both requiring 60 firefighters to contain each blaze. The fire brigade received numerous emergency calls across the incidents, with no injuries reported. The causes of the fires are under investigation amidst warnings of fire hazards during hot weather.
In total, the three fires destroyed 19 hectares of grassland, equivalent to the size of around 27 football pitches. Homes near Clemence Road were evacuated as the flames reached fences and garden furniture, with firefighters working hard to prevent further damage.
The fire brigade received 49 calls about the third blaze which took over two hours to tackle, indicating the severity of the incident and the urgency in mobilizing firefighters from multiple locations to address it.
