Winger Yang signs new Celtic deal until 2030
Yang Hyun-jun signed a new contract with Celtic that keeps him at the club until 2030. The 23-year-old South Korean winger joined from Gangwon FC in 2023 and has made 111 appearances, scoring 17 goals. He has won three Scottish Premiership titles, a League Cup, and a Scottish Cup with Celtic. He may play in the Scottish Cup final against Dunfermline Athletic. Yang said he loves the club and believes his future is there, adding that the season was difficult but ended with championships and that he wants better performances in European matches. Celtic manager Martin O'Neill praised his training qualities, confidence, big-moment goals, bravery under pressure, and progress back into the South Korean squad.
"“I love this club and my future is here,” Yang told Celtic TV. “I'm happy, and though the season was a little bit hard, we are champions and hopefully next season it will be easier. “I also want to show better performances in the European games.”"
"Manager Martin O'Neill commented: “I'm absolutely delighted, because on transfer deadline day he was down at Birmingham City, so I'm pleased that didn't go through. “Obviously, I didn't know him at that time, but there was something about him in training that you felt he's got a bit of something he can go past players, he can deal with the ball, all those particular things.”"
"“He maybe just needed a bit of confidence-boosting as much as anything else, but he's done wonderfully well. “The reason that he has done well is that he's got big, big goals for us at big moments and he's brave as well. He takes the ball under pressure. “He's super and he's worked his way back into the South Korean squad.”"
