Salah set to captain Egypt at World Cup
Mohamed Salah has been named in Egypt’s preliminary 27-man World Cup squad and will captain the team. The 33-year-old forward will leave Liverpool at the end of the season after nine years and has scored 67 goals in 115 appearances for Egypt. Omar Marmoush of Manchester City and Hamza Abdelkarim, an 18-year-old Barcelona Under-19 player, are also included. Mostafa Mohamed has been left out. Coach Hossam Hassan will reduce the squad to FIFA’s 26-player limit after a friendly against Russia in Cairo on 28 May. Egypt will play Brazil in Cleveland on 6 June and then face Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran in Group G.
