Bayer Leverkusen has secured goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Brentford for €10 million, marking a significant move as the club enters the Erik ten Hag era. With the departure of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, Leverkusen is positioning itself for a fresh start. The 31-year-old Flekken, who impressed with seven clean sheets in the Premier League last season, fills a vital need as current keeper Lukas Hradecky approaches the end of his career. Brentford's director expressed confidence in Flekken's abilities but acknowledged the player's desire for Champions League possibilities.
Flekken, who joined Brentford from Freiburg in 2023 and made 74 Premier League appearances in two seasons in west London, has signed a three-year contract with Leverkusen.
Brentford director of football Phil Giles said: "Mark has proven to be a seamless replacement for David Raya, who set an extremely high standard during his years with us."
