Texas Lawmakers Ignored Key Recommendations to Prepare Rural Areas for Floods

By 2024, the first statewide flood plan was released, featuring nearly $55 billion in proposed projects and 15 recommendations, targeting key vulnerabilities, including those in rural areas. However, despite these findings, the recent legislative session did not prioritize these recommendations, focusing instead on other issues, leaving some vulnerabilities unaddressed.
