Pro-Palestine protester Leqaa Kordia freed from US immigration detention
"I don't know what to say. I'm free! I'm free! Finally, after one year, a smiling Kordia told reporters after emerging from the detention centre."
Leqaa Kordia, a 33-year-old Palestinian woman, was released from immigration detention in Texas after spending one year in custody. Kordia had been detained following her participation in pro-Palestine demonstrations at Columbia University in 2024. She grew up in the occupied West Bank before immigrating to the United States in 2016. Upon her release from the detention center, Kordia expressed relief and joy, telling reporters she was finally free after her year-long detention.
