
Patton Oswalt said attempts to placate President Donald Trump by being nice do not work. He argued Trump turns on people who try to make amends or flatter him, even when intentions are good. Oswalt contrasted this with defiance, saying Trump hates those who do not love him, but once they try to win his affection, he shows no respect. He connected this behavior to Trump’s self-hatred, claiming Trump wants others to love him and then devalues them when they do. Oswalt also suggested that sticking with firm criticism is more effective over time.
