Colorado Democrats censured Governor Jared Polis for granting clemency to Tina Peters, a former county clerk serving a prison sentence after conviction for unauthorized access to voting machines following the 2020 election. The party said the decision materially harmed the party’s institutional credibility and efforts to defend democratic institutions and election integrity. The party emphasized that Colorado had spent years building trust in elections and proving they are secure, and argued that weakening accountability for someone convicted of undermining that trust was a mistake amid national attacks on democracy and voting rights. In Texas, Democratic leaders condemned congressional candidate Maureen Galindo for antisemitic comments after she won the Democratic primary for Texas’ 35th Congressional District and entered a runoff against Johnny Garcia.
