US-headquartered firms lead the rankings, with junior lawyers at the highest-scoring firms averaging about 13-hour days and often leaving after 10:00 pm. Newly qualified salaries at those firms have risen to around £180,000. Magic Circle firms show average desk times between 10 and 11 hours, with NQ pay near £150,000. Associates report constant on-call expectations, late-night calls for redlines, and email overload even when unwell. The top ten list names specific firms averaging between 11 and 13 hours daily.
