"A taxi driver who assaulted a security guard after his car was clamped has failed to persuade the Court of Appeal that his trial was unfair because the jury's subsidised lunches meant they "dined with the State"."
"Rejecting Feliks Andrianov's appeal against his conviction today, Mr Justice Peter Charleton said that the submissions made "defy sense"."
Feliks Andrianov, a taxi driver, assaulted a security guard after his car was clamped. He appealed his conviction to the Court of Appeal, arguing that the trial was unfair because jurors received subsidised lunches and therefore "dined with the State". The Court of Appeal rejected the appeal and upheld the conviction. Mr Justice Peter Charleton dismissed the submissions as "defy sense". The court found no basis to conclude that provision of subsidised lunches by the State compromised jury impartiality or the fairness of the trial. The conviction therefore remains in force.
