""I tell her, 'Anytime you're thinking of me, I was already thinking of you," she said from the patio of her Long Beach apartment."
""You're literally the only thing I can think about, and getting you out of there.""
Babblejit "Bubbly" Kaur and her husband, Amarjit Singh, celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary after fleeing religious persecution in India and arriving in 1994 with three children and little money. The couple operated Natraj Cuisine of India for decades and supported their children through college. Singh was diagnosed with cancer and Kaur lost her decadeslong cashier job at Rite Aid when the store closed. Kaur had an approved green card that had not yet been released when she was detained by ICE during a routine fingerprinting appointment and taken to the Adelanto ICE Processing Center. The family's lawyer filed a habeas corpus complaint and community members rallied support.
