Sydney Reid was arrested in July after a tussle while filming an ICE arrest and was acquitted by a jury. A grand jury initially no-billed the case, but prosecutors later charged Reid by misdemeanor Information. The government unsuccessfully sought to exclude evidence that undermined its theory and the credibility of FBI Agent Eugenia Bates. Bates made disparaging and inconsistent remarks, including calling Reid "boo boos" and "lib tard," and indicating she converted the incident into an assault charge. Reid produced previously unprovided video evidence. Judge Sparkle Sooknanan issued three adverse instructions against the government. Federal public defenders Eugene Ohm and Tezira Abe provided a vigorous defense.
