Report Concludes Federal Judge Had Sex With Police Officer in Chambers During Work Hours
A U.S. district court judge received a reprimand that was upheld after an investigation found repeated sexual conduct with a police officer in chambers during business hours. The judge was married, but not to the officer, and both names were not publicly disclosed. The reprimand barred service as chief judge and on Judicial Conference Committees, and required an apology to former law clerks interviewed during the investigation. A law clerk reported the conduct after the judge initially denied allegations. A special committee investigated, found an extramarital affair lasting about two years, attendance at a district attorney campaign event, and false statements denying the claims. The judge later recanted through a lawyer and admitted the affair. The officer’s department was involved in many cases, though no direct case assignment was found to be involved.
"After the unnamed judge initially denied the allegations when first confronted by Chief U.S. Circuit Judge William Pryor in September 2025, Pryor appointed a special committee to investigate. The investigation found that the judge engaged in an extramarital affair, attended a political campaign event for the district attorney and made false statements when the judge denounced the claims as baseless and outrageous. While the unnamed judge had initially denied the claims, the judge through a lawyer in October 2025 recanted and admitted to the affair, which had been going on for about two years."
