Judge Schofield quashed all subpoenas issued by Acting U.S. Attorney Sarcone after finding he overstayed the statutory 120-day appointment limit. Sarcone has served in the role since last March. Recent rulings have found several Trump-appointed prosecutors unlawfully installed, including Bilal Essayli, Sigal Chattah, Alina Habba, and Lindsey Halligan. A judge in December ruled Halligan unlawfully appointed and dismissed her cases against James and former FBI director James Comey. A federal judge gave Halligan seven days to explain why she identifies herself as the U.S. attorney and why that would not be a false or misleading statement. The Justice Department accused federal judges of waging a "campaign of bias and hostility."
