King & Wood and Mallesons will formally separate and revert to being independent firms effective March 31, 2026. King & Wood will control the firm's offices in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan and the U.S. Mallesons will operate as the only top-tier independent firm based in Australia with flexibility to collaborate broadly with global elite firms. The firms pledge continued client focus, commitment to excellence, and expansion of geographic coverage through organic growth and collaborations. King & Wood's Hong Kong office will play a strategic role. The split follows the 2012 merger and aims to end a decade and a half of strategic drift.
