Killer of Walt Harris' Step-Daughter Aniah Blanchard Convicted, Skirts Death Penalty
"I pledge to do everything in my power to ensure that Ibraheem Yazeed spends the rest of his life in prison. I believe that is what justice demands in this case. Aniah deserves it, as does her family."
"There's no verdict that can bring Aniah back."
Ibraheem Yazeed was found guilty of murdering Aniah Blanchard, a 19-year-old college student, but the jury did not convict him of capital murder. Yazeed had been out on bail for other serious charges when he abducted Blanchard in 2019. Following her disappearance, Aniah's Law was passed in Alabama, allowing judges to deny bail for Class A felonies. Alabama Attorney General expressed disappointment over the lack of a death penalty, while Blanchard's family seeks closure from the verdict.
