Judge suspended by judicial inquiry commission for incompetent, unprofessional behavior
Probate Judge Yashiba Blanchard in Jefferson County, Alabama, was suspended indefinitely after a 120-page complaint by the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission. Allegations claimed she ran the probate court in an incompetent and unprofessional manner, targeted attorneys and staff, and manufactured a backlog that disrupted involuntary commitments. The commission also alleged bias against attorneys, failure to disqualify herself from cases where she was an attorney, and harassment, intimidation, and retaliation toward probate court staff. Judge Elisabeth French appointed a retired probate judge to serve temporarily in Blanchard’s place.
