Nearly 500 workers were arrested in an immigration raid at the Hyundai-LG battery facility under construction in Bryan County, Georgia. The operation was part of an ongoing criminal investigation into alleged unlawful employment practices and other federal crimes and was described as the largest single-site enforcement operation in Homeland Security investigations. A total of 475 workers were detained, a majority identified as Korean nationals, and many were subcontractors. No formal charges had been filed at the time of the press briefing. Hyundai stated it is monitoring the situation and believes none detained are directly employed by Hyundai Motor Company. The plant is part of a $7.6 billion operation and is due to open in the first half of next year.
