"For more than a decade, this gang has terrorized the residents of the Acosta Plaza townhomes and East Salinas more broadly. The violent criminal activity that defendants have been charged with is appalling and unacceptable, Craig Missakian, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, said in a statement. We will not stop until the residents of this community feel safe and secure in their homes."
Federal authorities secured a superseding indictment charging nine alleged members of the Salinas Acosta Plaza gang, ages 19 to 32, with operating a criminal enterprise out of an East Salinas townhouse complex. The indictment alleges Norteno affiliation tied to the Nuestra Familia prison gang and accuses the group of a campaign of drug trafficking, armed robberies, shootings, attempted murders and murders. Court documents attribute 53 separate crimes to the group, including 11 murders (up from eight), 14 attempted murders, and violent acts spanning August 2009 to April 2025. Investigators included Homeland Security Investigations, the Salinas Police Department and the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.
