Family of Yolanda Ramirez files lawsuit against city, officers for wrongful death
"According to the lawsuit, Ramirez was at the Broderick Drive home to pick up her brother, who also lives there, for a medical appointment when an argument broke out between the sisters. Bustos called police. The lawsuit states that multiple third-party witnesses saw an unidentified female officer speak with Ramirez outside the home for a few minutes, during which Ramirez was "compliant" and explained her concerns about her brother's welfare."
"In addition, the suit, which also names Brentwood Officer Aaron Peachman in his individual capacity, makes claims of negligence and battery by officers during the incident. The family is seeking damages for hospital and medical expenses, coroner's fees, funeral and burial expenses, loss of familial relationships, pain and suffering, alleged violations of constitutional rights, and attorneys' fees and costs, among other claims."
Family filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on Jan. 1 on behalf of husband Rudolf Ramirez and three children, alleging excessive force during an arrest on Sept. 26, 2025. The suit names Brentwood Officer Aaron Peachman and advances claims of negligence and battery by officers. The family seeks damages for medical and coroner expenses, funeral and burial costs, loss of familial relationships, pain and suffering, alleged constitutional violations, and attorneys' fees. Yolanda Ramirez, 72, was arrested on suspicion of a misdemeanor after an argument outside her childhood home. Witnesses described Ramirez as compliant before officers accused her of fleeing and grabbed her arm.
