"Danielle Ahern (29) was "led down the garden path" by the ex-boyfriend, her lawyer said, adding that the defendant was "100pc reckless"."
"The defendant, with an address at Windmill Court in Skerries, admitted possessing, handling, transferring or acquiring property which was the proceeds of crime, namely €8,800 in cash."
"Mr Molloy said Ahern did not make any gain for herself and had been 'led down the garden path'."
The offence involved possession, handling, transferring or acquiring €8,800 in cash at AIB Bank in Balbriggan between July 7 and September 11, 2023. Gardaí discovered transfers into the defendant's account during a two-month period in 2023 and immediate ATM withdrawals totaling €8,800. The defendant cooperated with gardaí and admitted allowing two other individuals, including an ex-boyfriend, to use her account. The defence described the defendant as unaware of the funds' source, '100pc reckless', recently bereaved and vulnerable, without previous convictions or personal gain. The judge adjourned the case to December for finalisation and permitted a request for the defendant to bring money to court.
