DOJ Sues Harvard
"information necessary to determine whether Harvard, which has a recent history of racial discrimination, is continuing to discriminate in its admissions process."
"has slow-walked the pace of [document] production and refused to provide pertinent documents relating to applicant-level admissions decisions."
"The Justice Department will not allow universities to flout our nation's federal civil rights laws by refusing to provide the information required for our review,"
"Providing requested data is a basic expectation of any credible compliance process, and refusal to cooperate creates concerns about university practices. If Harvard has stopped discriminating, it should happily share the data necessary to prove it."
The Justice Department filed a lawsuit alleging Harvard failed to comply with a federal investigation by withholding information necessary to determine whether the university continues to discriminate in admissions. The filing asserts Harvard slow-walked document production and refused to provide applicant-level admissions documents. The government said the suit seeks only to compel production of materials related to any consideration of race and does not accuse Harvard of discriminatory conduct or seek damages or funding revocation. The DOJ stated universities must provide requested civil-rights review data; Harvard said it has responded in good faith and will defend itself.
