Kurland, 64, pleaded guilty to one count of theft over $100,000"
Sari Kurland, a disbarred Rockville attorney, pleaded guilty Jan. 9 to theft and fraud schemes totaling more than $4.2 million. She was suspended from the practice of law and indicted in 2024 after an investigation by the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission and entered a plea agreement in Montgomery County Circuit Court. Kurland, 64, pleaded guilty to one count of theft over $100,000 and 15 counts of misappropriation by a fiduciary and faces a maximum of 15 years in prison. The schemes centered on false promises of high returns in oil and cryptocurrency investments. Kurland hired Covington & Burling for representation.
