"'Every part of the prosecution of Zoe Rosenberg has been a s*** show, including her sentencing. 'You cannot have a just society if you are not just towards the most vulnerable beings. Zoe's imprisonment is a moral stain on our civilization.'"
"'underscores the seriousness of Direct Action Everywhere's actions and upholds the rule of law.' 'It affirms a basic truth: when you break the law, you will be held responsible,' the spokesperson said. 'We are grateful that DxE has been held to account for its unlawful campaign, including training and paying staff to carry out dangerous, unauthorized intrusions onto private property.'"
Zoe Rosenberg, 23, was convicted of two misdemeanor trespassing counts, a misdemeanor tampering with a vehicle count and a felony conspiracy charge after multiple intrusions at a Perdue-owned slaughterhouse in Petaluma. Prosecutors say Rosenberg and fellow Direct Action Everywhere activists accessed documents and computers, attached GPS trackers to delivery trucks and removed four chickens from a truck bed on separate occasions. Rosenberg said the chickens showed scratches and bruises and needed to be 'rescued.' She was sentenced to 90 days in jail and ordered to pay over $100,000 in restitution. Her legal team says her Type 1 diabetes and gastroparesis require continuous medical care while incarcerated.
